After three years struggling to overcome the Ducati empire, MotoGP fans will get to see the Spanish star take on Marquez with the same bike in 2027 and 2028
Ducati Corse has confirmed Pedro Acosta will join the Ducati Lenovo Team at the end of the current MotoGP season, signing a two year deal to race the factory Desmosedici GP.
The announcement sees Ducati bring one of the sport’s most highly rated young riders into its factory line-up, in a move the company says strengthens its long term racing project and underlines its commitment to investing in top emerging talent in MotoGP.
Acosta arrives with a formidable reputation. The Spaniard claimed world titles in both Moto3 and Moto2 within three years of making his World Championship debut, quickly establishing himself as one of the standout riders of his generation.
He has also made an immediate impression in the premier class. After earning Rookie of the Year honours in 2024, Acosta went on to finish fourth overall in the 2025 MotoGP standings, collecting 13 podiums along the way.
By securing Acosta for the next two seasons, Ducati has made a clear statement about its future direction, pairing proven factory machinery with one of the most exciting young riders on the grid.
The signing, along with Marc Marquez’s recently announced deal, confirms that Francesco Bagnaia will not race with the factory Ducati squad in 2027, though it has been widely rumoured for some time that he will be moving to Aprilia next year.
Claudio Domenicali (CEO Ducati Motor Holding)
“Pedro is undoubtedly one of the most talented young riders in the MotoGP paddock. At just 22 years old, he is the kind of rider with whom a new and exciting chapter can be written. We have always liked him and have been following him for some time, both for what he has achieved on track and for his direct and easy-going personality, which we are sure will make Ducatisti fall in love with him once he is dressed in red. We believe that, alongside Marc, he represents the ideal complement for a team that – building on its history and on the results achieved in recent years – wants to continue playing a leading role in the future and remain a source of admiration, respect and support for Ducati fans all around the world”.
Luigi Dall’Igna (General Manager of Ducati Corse)
“Pedro represents the ideal candidate for the future of the Ducati Lenovo Team. After Marc’s confirmation, we wanted to add a young and fast rider to the Desmosedici GP development project. Pedro, in addition to being an undisputed talent, has demonstrated extraordinary precocity. In just under six years in the Championship, he has won two titles in the lower classes and achieved truly convincing performances in MotoGP. His arrival in the Team will be a stimulus for everyone; he will help us grow, and we will support him on the path to full maturity as a rider. I am confident that, with the encouragement of our Team and given the right amount of time, his contribution, for sure, will ensure a further step forward in terms of performance and goals”.
