Entry level trike revamped for next year
Can-Am’s Ryker was launched in 2018 as a low-cost route into the brand’s unique range of reverse-trike three-wheelers and for 2027 it’s getting a major redesign including new engine configurations, updated looks and a revised chassis.
The biggest news is the demise of the twin-cylinder, 600cc version that currently sits at the entry point of the range. That bike’s Rotax twin managed 37.3kW at 7300rpm and 49.7Nm of torque at 6000rpm, but for 2017 it’s swapped for a detuned version of the 900cc Rotax three-cylinder that powers the higher-performance models. The detuned triple manages 38.9kW at 7250rpm – pretty much on a par with the old 600 – and 53.9Nm at a lower 5000rpm, promising similar performance to the old model but at lower revs and with smoother delivery.
The higher-performance Sport version keeps the 900cc triple, but in an unrestricted tune to put out 59.6kW at 8250rpm and 79.1Nm at 6750rpm.
The engines sit in a revised chassis that’s stiffer than the old version, with additional upgrades to the steering column, pitman arm, tie-rods, ball joints and bushings to make for a tougher steering system than before. The electronic control systems are also revised to be more progressive, and on board there’s a new 5-inch colour display.
Externally, the Ryker gets a new look with revised styling and a more aggressive, quad-headlight nose, with the lights stacked in pairs behind two clear covers. There’s no word yet on prices, but they’re unlikely to stray too far from the current range, which starts at AU$19,999 for the lower-powered model. There’s no sign yet of a replacement for the top-of-the-range Ryker Rally yet, though.
