Motorcycle Footpath Parking Bans | St Kilda Protest | NEWS

Signs banning motorcycle parking on footpaths appeared in Acland St, St Kilda, in early February to the alarm of both riders and business owners.

The trial ban is to run for six months and was instigated at the request of Victoria Police and the City of Port Phillip who claim to have received numerous complaints about bike parking and excessive noise in busy pedestrian areas.

The Independent Riders Groups (IRG) has lobbied the City of Port Phillip for a meeting to resolve the parking issue that was enforced without community or business consultation, and does not offer any other alternative for motorcycle riders.

A peaceful protest to oppose the footpath parking bans will be held this Sunday morning, 21 Feb. Riders will occupy car spaces to demonstrate the impact motorcycles will have on parking in general.

Motorcyclists who park on the footpath in designated banned areas will be fined $152.
