In a powerful display of community spirit, competitive racing, and heartfelt generosity, over $31,000 was raised at Mac Park to support Cancer Council SA and raise vital awareness
Everyone involved in the recent Cancer Council Cup at Mac Park was blown away by the support the event received, with a staggering $31,313 being raised for Cancer Council SA, far eclipsing last year’s result of $13,000. Run in conjunction with the regular Over 45s race meeting, the three feature races offered a time bonus based on the percentage of funds raised in each event. Competition both on the track and in the behind-the-scenes fundraising was fierce, with final placings only announced during presentations at the end of the event.

In addition, several club identities participated in the inaugural Mac Park Greatest Shave, raising $7,000 towards the total.
As always, the raffle was popular, with AMCN getting behind the event by providing a subscription as part of the prize pool.
In addition to raising vital funds, the event was about raising awareness and encouraging people to talk about what can be a difficult topic for many. We were fortunate to have local surgeon Professor Matthias Wichmann address the crowd about warning signs, symptoms, and screening options available.

Local racer Barry Collins also made an emotional speech, as this event marked his successful return to racing after having spent seven weeks at the Cancer Council lodge in Adelaide receiving treatment earlier this year. With funds raised directly supporting regional patients accessing treatment in the city, his speech was particularly pertinent.

The club is already planning to make next year’s event even bigger and better, and if you would like to be involved in any capacity, we would love to hear from you.
