DAVIES DOUBLES AGAIN WITH REA AND SYKES BEHIND | NEWS

Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) took a perfect 50 points away from the Imola race weekend after winning his second race in two days.

At Ducati’s local track this brought him to within 35 points of championship leader Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team), who was second, once again just ahead of his team-mate Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team).

Davies had taken out a gap of two seconds in only five laps and with three laps to go he was over five seconds up.

Davide Giugliano (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) placed fourth but again the sensation of the midfield was Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) who picked off some top riders with his strong pace to take an impressive fifth place.

His fellow Briton Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) was sixth, equalling his best 2016 result.

Jordi Torres (Althea BMW Racing Team) was the top BMW finisher, in seventh, with the best Aprilia rider being Lorenzo Savadori (IodaRacing Team Aprilia) in eighth. He had been fourth in the early laps.

Nicky Hayden (Honda World Superbike Team) won the Honda battle for ninth, with Michael van der Mark (Honda World Superbike Team) tenth.

In the championship Rea has 221, Davies 186, Sykes 154 and van der Mark 106.

Josh Brookes (Milwaukee BMW) placed 13th and Josh Hook (Grillini Racing Team Kawasaki) fell in the middle of the final chicane early in the race to no-score.
