Coming Rally | EVENTS

Press Release from Brian ‘Nip’ Kuerschner  Vice President AJSMOC (Aust)

20 years will have passed since New Zealand last hosted the International Jampot Rally so we are preparing a pre rally tour of the South Island leaving Nelson on Monday 3rd February 2020 and travelling south down the West Coast through some of the finest scenic roads in New Zealand to our southernmost city of Invercargill to view the Motorcycle Racing Events at the Bert Munro Challenge. Events will include Hill Climb, Beach Racing, Track Racing, Speedway and Street Races.

From there we intend travelling North over Alpine Passes, returning to Nelson on Friday February 14th to our Rally Head Quarters at Tahuna Beach Holiday Park covering a distance of approximately 1300 miles or 2170 kilometers.

For the adventurists there could be some gravel back roads we can detour through. We expect to provide a backup vehicle with trailer including a qualified mechanic, tools and spare parts. The approximate cost of the pre Rally tour which would cover accommodation for 11 nights and backup vehicle we anticipate to be around £400 ($720 give or take) per person.

Our Saturday ride takes us West over the Takaka Hill to Takaka for lunch and return to Tahuna Beach Holiday Park for our Annual General Meeting, Dinner Evening, Guest Speaker and Award Presentations. The Rally will conclude on Sunday 16th February. The cost just to attend the Rally in Nelson for Friday to Sunday for just meals and Rally entry without accommodation would be approximately £80 ($145).

We have 2 couples who would like to return to the UK in August 2020 who are willing to loan bikes in New Zealand for a return deal in the UK.

We require 2 more bikes.

 Points of interest to consider.

1/.      If considering shipping your bike to New Zealand they should arrive Mid-January 2020 to Port Nelson.

2/.      While insurance is not compulsory it is certainly recommend.

3/.      Bikes must pass a safety inspection before they are permitted to operate on our roads.

4/.      A deposit of £400 ($720 approx.) per person is required to secure accommodation bookings for the pre Rally tour and is required no later than 30th November 2018. This is due to having to secure suitable lodging particularly in Invercargill as this is peak tourist season and we envisage a group of 40 odd people on the tour.

5/.      Accommodation at the Tahuna Beach Holiday Park will be able to be selected by Rally entrants online as there is a wide range of options from tent sites to luxury apartments. We have been allocated a booking reference for Rally attendees to obtain Special Group deal Rates. Accommodation is to be booked direct with the Park by the Rally attendees.

6/.      For partners or non-riders, the Management at the Park can organize wine tours of the Nelson Region or visit some of the numerous art galleries or visit the open air markets in central Nelson.

7/.      Bikes of the Marque are preferred on our Rallies but other makes will be made more than welcome. Campervans will also be accepted.

8/.      If interested and would like to learn more or require assistance in joining us at this Major event on our Clubs calendar you are welcome to contact the Rally Organizer, Murray McLean by emailing matchlessnz@icloud.com or by phoning +64 3 525 7024
