The Mac Park Cancer Council Cup is back, where the local community wins with each and every lap

The Mount Gambier Motor Cycle Club will once again host the Cancer Council Cup feature races as part of its annual Over 45s (seniors) Road Race meeting, taking place on the weekend of 16-17 May at the picturesque McNamara Park Raceway.

Rob Vikuckis won the Heavyweight division last year

Since its inaugural staging in 2023, the event has grown in leaps and bounds. That first year saw riders and supporters raise $7000, a remarkable effort for a debut. In 2024, the total climbed to $13,000, and last year the event shattered expectations with an astonishing $31,000 raised for the SA Cancer Council. All proceeds go directly towards helping regional patients access treatment in Adelaide, a cause close to the hearts of many in the local motorcycling community.

Mac Park is unique on the riding scene as the only national-standard road-race track in Australia run entirely by a volunteer-based club. For the members, racing is about far more than speed; it’s about camaraderie, community and giving back. Many club members have been personally affected by cancer, making this event not only a showcase of skill on two wheels but also a heartfelt community effort.

Karina Sunk won the 2025 Lightweight class – all for a good cause

The three Cancer Council Cup races – Lightweight, Heavyweight and Sidecar – will once again feature its innovative format of final placings being determined not just by race times but also by a time bonus linked to the amount of money a rider raises, making each result a thrilling surprise. This unique mix of athletic skill and fundraising savvy means every rider has a chance to make an impact both on and off the track on the day.

Spectators can join in too, donating to their favourite rider and helping boost their chance of victory. The friendly, laid-back atmosphere makes this event just as much about community spirit as it is about racing, offering something for regular Mac Park fans and newcomers alike.

Entries are open via Ridernet, or by contacting club directly via www.macparkraceway.org.au or its Facebook page. Don’t miss the chance to be part of a race meeting where every lap counts – and every dollar makes a difference.
