Suzuki has returned to the quarter-litre streetbike ranks in Australia with the release of the Gixxer 250 and fully faired Gixxer SF 250.

The two new GIXXER 250 models will take their place in Suzuki’s local line-up alongside the V-STROM 250SX adventure touring motorcycle which shares the same motor, frame and engineering.

Design highlights include the stylish twin-outlet exhaust with chrome caps, brushed-finish alloy wheels, rear tyre hugger and the easy-to-read digital console.

Both Gixxers are powered by a fuel-injected 249cc, single-cylinder engine which incorporates Suzuki’s oil cooling system, designed to provide high output, durability and ease of maintenance alongside frugal fuel economy.

Maximum power is a claimed 19.8kW (26.7hp) at 9300rpm, while there’s apparently 22.2Nm of torque tap that arrives 2000rpm lower in the rev range. Power and torque are delivered to the 150-section rear tyre via a six-speed transmission and chain final drive.

The Gixxer 250 weighs in at a whippet-like 156kg fully fuelled with the fully faired Gixxer SF 250 tipping the scales at 161kg ready to roll. The Gixxer SF 250 has a seat height of 800mm while the Gixxer 250 is even more accessible to shorter riders with its 795mm seat height. Combined with their respective low weights, both models should be a breeze to live with for novice and experienced riders alike.

Stopping duties are handled by a large 300mm front disc gripped by a ByBre twin-piston caliper which should be more than enough to pull up these two feather weights.

Suspension duties are handled by a 41mm non-adjustable front fork and monoshock on the bum.

The Gixxer range will go on sale in Australia from November 2023 with the Gixxer 250 priced at just $6490 Ride Away with two colour options: Matt Blue or Matt Black, and the Gixxer SF 250 is priced at $6790 Ride Away with two colour options: Matt Blue or Matt Black.
