McMartin Racing star stamps his authority on the title fight at the business end of the season
Harrison Voight capped a flawless Morgan Park weekend with victory in ASBK Superbike Race 2, leading from pole and overcoming sustained early pressure from Mike Jones before pulling clear in the closing laps. Jones produced his strongest ride of the season to claim second, while Josh Waters completed the podium in third as McMartin Racing also wrapped up the Superbike Teams Championship.

Voight launched cleanly from pole and immediately put his Ducati at the front into Turn 1. Waters initially held second, but Jones was aggressive from the opening lap and quickly forced his way into the battle. The opening stages were tense, with Voight surviving a sizeable moment through the fast section, yet the championship leader gathered it up and continued to press on at the front.

That early phase was the closest anyone came to denying him. Jones looked far more competitive than at any previous point this season and glued himself to the rear of Voight’s machine, edging clear of Waters as the race settled. With the track temperature down and tyre choice a major factor across the weekend, Jones made impressive use of the softer option and remained a genuine threat through the first half of the race. Waters, meanwhile, stayed composed and worked his way into the contest in his usual fashion, keeping the leaders within reach without overcommitting too early.

Behind the front three, John Lytras continued his standout weekend by running near the front and holding fourth for much of the race. Cameron Dunker was one of the early movers after starting from row three, carving his way through several riders in the opening laps. Jonathan Nahlous was also involved in that fight, while Jack Favelle had to recover after a poor launch dropped him further back than expected.

As the laps ticked by, Voight began to establish control. Even while visibly sliding the rear through Morgan Park’s fast corners, he continued to produce lap times that no one else could sustain. Jones hung on impressively and stretched the life of his tyre well beyond expectations, but once the race entered its final stages the gap began to open. Waters trimmed some time off Jones late on, though not enough to challenge for second.

Dunker’s progress eventually carried him into fourth after a clean move on Lytras at the bottom of the hill, and he stayed there to the finish. Lytras still delivered one of the rides of the race, but he came under late pressure from Favelle, whose pace surged in the closing laps. Favelle first cleared Nahlous and then passed Lytras, securing fifth after an impressive recovery. Lytras took sixth, with Nahlous seventh.
Cru Halliday finished eighth ahead of Glenn Allerton in ninth, while Olly Simpson completed the top 10. Luca Durning was 11th, and Ty Lynch was unable to take the start because of a mechanical issue.

With one round to go, Voight leads the championship on 198 points, with Waters second on 174 and Dunker third on 146. Halliday remains fourth on 135, Allerton fifth on 130 and Jones sixth on 129, leaving the fight for the title and the minor positions open heading to the final round at Queensland Raceway – a track reigning champ Waters enjoys and holds the lap record at…

Harrison Voight – P1
“I’ve got to give Mike credit, that was bloody hard. He kept me so honest and I knew he had the X on, so at the start I knew I just needed to keep in front of him. Mike’s so fast around here, he knows what he’s doing, so to pass is kind of a desperate move. I know Mike quite well and I thought it’d be a tough race, so congratulations to him. It’s nice to see him back up the front with us again. He’s certainly a tough competitor. It’s a fantastic way to go out, to win again means a lot. A big credit to everyone in McMartin Racing. They prepare Josh and my bikes so well and they give us the best packages. A big credit to them and everyone that supports the team, and to my personal sponsors. We’re going to the last round at Queensland Raceway in a few weeks’ time. Fortunately I’ve got to catch a flight tonight and go back to Europe and start testing next week, basically a day after I land, so it’s going to be a busy few weeks.”
Mike Jones – P2
“That was a good race. I made a little bit better start there. Josh and Harry were maybe just a little bit scrappy early on and got a little bit wide, which let me pass Josh, and I glued myself to the back of Harry and tried to follow him for as long as I could. I had a bit more pace in some areas of the track, and he had better speed in other parts, and I really needed to be able to get ahead of him early on in that part of the race when my tyre was good to have any chance. But he was able to hang on to it for probably the last quarter of the race. I’m definitely stoked, it’s a great reward for the team. I know it’s second and we’d love to be winning, but like I said in the first race, the MHR Racing team put in a big effort, and not always with the results that you want, so to get on the podium is a great result for them. We’ve got a couple days of testing at Queensland Raceway coming up this week, so we’ll be feeling pretty confident for QR. It’s a great track for us and I’m looking forward to racing there.”
Josh Waters – P3
“It wasn’t great for me, it was terrible from the start, so it is what it is. Not a wonderful day, but I’ll try my best at QR. I like it there. Big thanks to the team, to all of our sponsors and all my personal sponsors, and congrats to the boys because they rode fantastically. I know I’m getting older, but I still want to do it because I’m so disappointed inside. I’m really looking forward to QR. I’ve got the lap record there and I went alright there last year, so I really enjoy the circuit.”
