With more power, smarter tech and classic style, there are plenty of good reasons why the 2025 Harley-Davidson Breakout is still the king of the road.
The Harley-Davidson Breakout has been a long-standing favourite with Australian and New Zealand riders, with its long and lean chopper profile really hitting the mark and being the basis for some outstanding custom builds.
A Decade of dominance
In 2023, the Breakout celebrated 10 years of production, which was celebrated with the model receiving some visual and performance upgrades, ensuring that the raw rider appeal continued to grow. To name but a few changes, the tank returned to its original 18.9 litre capacity, the engine moved up to 117 cubic inches and the 26-spoke cast-aluminium wheels finished in gloss black with machined details topped off the high-impact machine.
Despite only two model year releases passing, the 2025 model has received further enhancements, ensuring that the renowned muscular stance was backed with even more performance and more technology.
Performance that packs a punch
While the 2024 and 2025 Harley-Davidson Breakout models share many core features, including the Milwaukee-Eight™ 117 engine, the new 2025 model introduces several refinements that enhance performance, aesthetics and rider experience.
The new model gets a performance boost with the ‘Custom’ variant of the new and improved Milwaukee-Eight engine, providing higher compression ratio and delivering peak torque at a lower RPM, enhancing low-end performance.
Further engine enhancements focus on improved cooling, with the coolant solution passing through the heads, further optimising the thermal comfort for the rider, especially in low-speed riding situations and hot weather.
Smarter tech for every ride
Technical improvements for 2025 include the introduction of ride modes, with three modes available for the rider to select on the fly, designed to suit the riding desire or conditions in the moment. This is instant tuning at the rider’s fingertips, with the ride modes adapting the torque, throttle response and level of electronic ABS, traction control and drag torque slip control.
Running through the three modes, Road mode is intended for daily use, emphasises a flat torque curve and predictable throttle response for a smooth and easy ride that’s great for the city or clocking up kms on the open road.
Rain Mode is designed to reduce engine torque as engine speed rises due to rear wheel slipping. This gives the rider greater confidence when riding in the rain or when traction is otherwise limited. Rain Mode offers a smooth and more subtle throttle response and deceleration that helps avoid rapid changes in torque and adds another layer of confidence in wet conditions.
The third mode, Sport, gives the rider the full performance potential of the motorcycle with an exhilarating torque rise at low-engine speeds, full power potential at high-engine speeds, and the quickest throttle response and more reactive engine breaking on deceleration.
Confidence with every curve
Sitting alongside the ride modes and as featured on the Touring models, the 2025 Breakout also offers Rider Safety Enhancements. These are designed to match motorcycle performance to available traction during acceleration, deceleration and braking. The systems are electronic and utilise the latest chassis control, brake control and powertrain technology.
Refined style, signature stance
The 2025 model has received subtle design updates, including refreshed paint schemes and graphics, as well as a new 5.75-inch round headlamp replacing the previous oval-shaped unit.
The new instrument presents an analogue speedometer display above a multi-function LCD digital display. The rider can use the Trip hand control button to scroll through available information in the LCD display. The digital display offers the same wide range of information as the previous display, with the addition of a selected Ride Mode icon, TPMS warning icon, cruise control enabled/disabled and gear position indicator.
The new 2025 Breakout also features an all-new LED headlamp, tail and brake lights and signals. With the previous Breakout model offering incandescent signals, the newest iteration of the model ensures maximum visibility when it’s needed the most.
While both the 2024 and 2025 Harley-Davidson Breakout models offer outstanding performance with the Milwaukee-Eight™ 117 engine, the 2025 version introduces enhancements in torque delivery, rider information systems, safety features and design elements. These updates aim to provide a more refined and comfortable riding experience without deviating from the Breakout’s signature style.
Experience the Breakout difference
All up, the 2025 Breakout is a must-test ride experience. The performance improvements are instantly noticeable, with Sport mode guaranteeing a smile on your face.
