TAYLA RELPH TOPS FIRST WORLDWCR SESSION | SPORT

Aussie racer Tayla Relph topped the timesheets in the first session of the inaugural FIM WorldWCR (Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship).

Aussie Tayla Relph has made history at the first official test for the inaugural FIM WorldWCR (Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship) held at Cremona Circuit, Milan, Italy. Relph topped the initial session on a rain-hit opening day, before ending the test in sixth place overall.

Tayla Relph placed fourth in the final dry session of the WorldWCR, saying, “I’ve never ridden here before, I’ve never ridden this bike in Europe and we only came here last week. To top the very first practice session for this history making Women’s World Championship is a little bit of a dream come true!”

While many riders enjoy the support of well-resourced leading European teams, Relph is competing under her own Tayco Motorsport banner.

The 2018 World Supersport 300 Champion Ana Carrasco (Evan Bros Racing) is the early favourite, posting the overall fastest time by several tenths in a field where all riders will be competing on identical Yamaha YZF-R7 machinery.

After the test, Carrasco said, “I’m happy with the first day, especially because it feels like the start of the season is getting closer. Last year I couldn’t be competitive at the end of the season because of the leg injury so after almost six months without racing I’m looking forward to being back on the grid.”

The FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship series begins at the Misano World Circuit on 14 June.
