Bulega looking hard to stop heading into Superpole, Razgatlioglu second, Gardner makes a step

Nicolo Bulega continued his dominance at Phillip Island, setting the pace on Saturday morning. The Italian star has topped every session of the Australian Round so far, kicking off the first race day of the 2025 season with a blistering 1’28.903 lap. He was the only rider to break into the 1’28s, finishing two tenths ahead of his closest challenger, Toprak Razgatlioglu. The Turkish rider closed the gap to Bulega, setting a 1’29.106, a considerable improvement compared to Friday’s sessions.

Razgatliouglu dipped into the low 1,29s

Bulega wasted no time, immediately clocking a 1’28.936 on his first flying lap. He came close to improving on his second attempt before finally shaving time off with a 1’28.903 on his third lap. He set a string of laps in the 1,29s range, showing his Ducati is using the tyres well. Razgatlioglu edged closer but remained fractionally off the 1’28s mark. Meanwhile, reigning champion Alvaro Bautista slotted into third with a late 1’29.128, just 0.022s behind Razgatlioglu and 0.225s adrift of his teammate.

Bautista was third once again, but could one to watch in the race given how he conserves tyres

Danilo Petrucci posted a 1’29.226 to secure fourth, only three tenths behind Bulega. Fifth place went to Andrea Iannone, who set a 1’29.308 but was unable to improve on his Friday time. Alex Lowes’ pace on the Bimota looks solid in sixth, just ahead of his twin brother Sam Lowes.

Lowes appears to have consistent pace on the new Bimota

Remy Gardner was the fastest Yamaha rider, finishing ninth with a 1’29.565. Axel Bassani completed the top ten, with Yari Montella in 11th, just 0.783s off the lead as the top 11 were separated by less than eight tenths.

Gardner was only half a second from the front row

Further down the order, Ryan Vickers crashed at Turn 8 during. The British rider was taken to the medical centre for a check-up but still ended the session in 17th.
