Joel Kelso to stay on the Moto3 grid with the Honda-backed team as he looks to build on recent form

Joel Kelso will remain with GRYD Racing for the 2027 season, with the team confirming the Australian will continue into a second straight year under the two year deal agreed last season.

The contract extension gives Kelso continuity as he looks to build on the gains made during the current campaign. Since joining GRYD Racing, he has shown steady improvement, claiming five front row starts so far this season, most recently at Phillip Island on Saturday. His best result to date came at Silverstone, where he finished sixth.

Kelso said the chance to stay on with the team was an important step as he continues his development in the world championship.

“I’m really happy to continue with GRYD Racing. In our first year with Honda, we’ve learnt a lot, and I feel that we’re making big steps forward. I think it’s going to be great to continue with the team for a second year in the World Championship for the first time in my career.

GRYD Racing are like family to me now, and I’m looking forward to learning from everything we’ve done this year with the Honda and carrying that experience into next year. Overall, I’m really excited, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with them. ”

Team manager Macauley Webb said the decision reflected the squad’s belief in Kelso and its long term plans.

“Retaining Kelso for 2027 reflects GRYD Racing’s confidence in the Australian and its commitment to building on the foundations established this year.

With continuity across the garage, the team aims to maintain its upward trajectory and provide Kelso with the platform to continue progressing in the World Championship. ”

The announcement lands at a fitting time for Kelso, who will race on home soil this weekend at the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. To celebrate the occasion, his bike will carry a special livery, with matching designs on his leathers and helmet in tribute to Australia and the local fans expected to turn out in force.
