The regulation set to shake up the national competition
The biggest ASBK change for 2025 is the ‘one-bike’ rule, which will bring the competition into line with other championships around the world that only allow competitors to have one race bike in the garage. The rule was initially proposed by Jake Skate, who said his experience with the rule promoted overall fairness and equality, particularly for privateers. “Essentially, the next opportunity for riders to use two bikes would be MotoGP – most series around the world only allow one bike,” Skate says. “It’s designed to help privateers who don’t have the budget to make use of two high-spec bikes in the one session and also encourages teams to run two riders.”

Skate says riders can still have a complete spare machine, but it can’t be in the garage and can’t be used until you declare your initially scrutineered bike has been destroyed. It means a team that normally uses multiple bikes mid-session don’t have an advantage over another. “You can argue whether it’s cost saving or not… but it should help in managing tyre costs. Also, mechanics that are doing a proper job and updating both bikes during a weekend are working completely flat out.” Most riders and team owners AMCN had spoken to were supportive of the rule.
