MAXWELL CLAIMS ROUND AN CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD | NEWS | SPORT

Yamaha’s Wayne Maxwell (YRT/Yamaha Motors Australia) has claimed overall honours in today’s fourth round of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway.

After finishing second to Ducati rider Mike Jones (Ducati Aust/Motul/Pirelli/QBE/Australian Outdoor Living) in Race 1. Maxwell then stepped up the pace in race two to claim victory ahead of Yamaha teammate Glenn Allerton for a 2,1 scorecard and the round victory. The victory allowed Maxwell to leapfrog Allerton into the championship lead by five points (176-171).

Mike Jones’ maiden win on the Ducati in Race 1 was baked up with a third place in Race 2 for second overall, while Allerton’s 3,2 scorecard accumulated enough points to claim the third step on the podium.

Look for a full round wrap in the next issue if AMCN on sale Thursday.
