A little club called Heaven | SPORT

Craig Anderson at a recent Heaven VMX meeting at Cessnock on a 1984 Honda CR500RE

Heaven VMX is the largest NSW based vintage motocross club. We are the only solely vintage MX club in NSW and currently have a large membership from all over the State. We run around eight Vintage MX meetings each year across NSW and the upcoming Vintage MX and Veterans MX Meeting over October’s long weekend (October 1-2) at Hastings Valley Motorcycle Raceway in Port Macquarie is set to be our best event yet!

The objective of this 2-day meeting is a friendly meeting of large likeminded clubs from NSW, Queensland and Vic. In addition to Heaven VMX member (NSW), riders from QVMX (Queensland) and VIPER VMX (Victoria) along with the Hastings Valley club are also eligible to enter. Membership with one of these clubs is all you need to enter – it doesn’t cost the earth and is a great way to support your local MCC so if you want to ride, or need more information, get in touch with them directly to register your interest.

The format will be a ‘State of Origin’ type event run along the lines of the MX des Nations scoring system. There will not be selected teams as such but the format will allow all riders to contribute to their club’s score.

Each class will be run over 3 Motos and each class winning state ‘team’ will be awarded a state of origin shield plus the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place getters overall in each class. The winning state overall will be the state that wins the most classes.

The meeting will also offer events for women and one junior class for 12-16yrs and there will also be classes for ‘Over 35s’, ‘Over 45s’ and ‘Over 55s’ plus an ‘Open’ class. These last four classes are all powers and open to classic and modern machines.

If you would like a copy of the club supplementary regulations or further information, please do not hesitate to visit www.heavenvmx.com.au or email heaven.vmx@gmail.com

What bike’s can enter?

The meeting will be open to vintage MX (VMX) entries in Pre 1975 (short wheel travel bikes), Pre 1978 (first generation of the long travel machines), Pre 1982 (twin shock bikes the last of the air cooled, drum brake and non-linkage suspension machines), Pre85 (first generation of front disc brakes, water cooling, linkage suspension and the advent of power valves), Pre90 (the period when the water cooled engines with advanced power valves came of age. Rear discs and USD forks became common and linkage suspension was universal) & Pre95 (the move towards more modern chassis designs with removable sub-frames USD forks actually worked). All classes will be run as all powers event and there are several top riders from the past riding the classic machines just as fast as they did back in the day.
