Savadori to replace Martin as fresh training injuries rule the reigning champ out for Thai GP
The news goes from bad to worse at Aprilia, with Jorge Martin sidelined for the opening Grand Prix of the season in Thailand after fracturing his left foot and suffering a triple fracture in his left hand.
Martin is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left hand on Tuesday to stabilise the fractures, with his recovery timeline to be determined after the procedure.
“Jorge Martin sustained a complex fracture of the radius, along with multiple fractures in the carpal bones on his left hand, as well as an associated calcaneal (heel bone) fracture during a training session,” Aprilia stated.

“Following consultation with medical experts, the decision was made to proceed with surgery, which will take place tomorrow at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona.”
Martin had already undergone surgery earlier this month after sustaining injuries to his right hand and foot in a heavy crash at Sepang, Malaysia.
According to Spanish media reports, the 27-year-old was on track to receive medical clearance to race at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit this weekend before suffering his latest injuries while training at the Menargues karting circuit in Spain.
Aprilia has confirmed that test rider Lorenzo Savadori will step in to replace Martin for the Thai Grand Prix.
