Australian rock icon Jimmy Barnes will headline a Saturday night concert at this year’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island, marking his return to the event after more than 30 years

Jimmy Barnes will headline what is expected to be an emotional final farewell to MotoGP at Phillip Island, bringing the heart and soul of Australian rock and roll to the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

As evening falls over the Bass Coast on Saturday 24 October, the two-time ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, known to many as ‘Barnesy’, will perform a set drawing on more than 40 years of landmark music. His catalogue features favourites including Working Class Man and Flame Trees, along with many other defining Australian songs.

Barnes first rose to prominence as the frontman of Cold Chisel before building a highly successful solo career, and he remains one of the country’s most enduring live performers. His 21st studio album, DEFIANT, was released in June last year and debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Chart, pushing his career total to a record 22 No. 1 albums. He then launched another sold-out national tour.

The appearance will mark Barnes’ first performance at the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in more than three decades. His last time playing at the event came in 1993, when the race was briefly based at Eastern Creek and he appeared as part of his Sweat It Out tour.

The concert is included with a Saturday ticket, with adult Island Pass prices starting at $75. Fans will be able to watch a full day of racing before ending the night with a performance from one of Australia’s biggest live acts.

To give concertgoers more time at the circuit, Catch-a-Coach departures will be extended after the show. Services to Cowes township will also run later, helping fans stay longer and enjoy the atmosphere.
