Ride 1992 Yamaha Renaissa
He says: The first thing people ask when they see it is “What is it” when I reply a Yamaha Renaissa, the response is always the same “never heard of it”. The little Yamaha Renaissa was a bike before it’s time. It’s a little V-twin 250cc Café Racer based on the Yamaha SRV 250. Back in 1992 Hipsters were yet to discover motorcycles, in fact, I don’t think Hipster was even a word. No one wanted a bike that looked like something their grandad owned, so the Renaissa was short-lived. The V-Twin engine is from the Virago model, and I’ve added the Nex exhaust system which is obscenely loud. My favourite thing is to pull up next to a Harley rider, give the little bike a good rev and say “That’s what real V-twin power sounds like”. It’s had a little cosmetic work done, but all the parts are in my garage ready to return it to stock standard one day. I don’t ride it often. It has no power, the handling is terrible, the front and rear suspension struggles as soon as you go over 80km/h, and the brakes are rubbish, but I love riding it. The guy who sold it to me is mad, I’ll hang onto it forever.
We say: That’s one cool looking bike Zane. Our sister magazine MT recently voted it in the top 10 prettiest bikes ever made.
