Australia’s, Glenn Scott has competed in his first race of the World Superbikes European 1000 Superstock Championship with determination and style.
The first round of the championship was held at Motorland Aragon, Spain. Scott fought past demons and bike set-up problems over the weekend to knock over 6 places in the race with a finish of 22nd. The Agron-on Benjan Kawasaki team Racer started the weekend 5 seconds behind his fellow riders and managed to finish the race within only 3 seconds from the front. An accomplishment in itself for Scott.
After suffering a compound fracture to his left leg at Aragon last year, Scott thought that it wouldn’t be possible to be racing internationally again. So to be on the World stage after 12 months of recovery and rehab, it’s a pretty amazing act of courage and persistence.
“I’m extremely happy with the result. Not many riders can say that they are happy with a 22nd placing finish, but I can. After what I have conquered and overcome over the last 12 months, it feels pretty surreal. I made it through the weekend and improved every session”.
Scott managed to secure a great start in the race overtaking 2 riders by the end of lap 1, from here the 13 lap race looked very promising for Scott. After overcoming race jitters, Glenn managed to battle every lap, eyes focussed on the next rider, whilst maintaining his fastest lap of the weekend consistently throughout the race which is very hard to do under race conditions even for the world’s best.
“With the challenges of a new bike, new team, a new class to become accustomed to and considering my past history with the Motorland Aragon Circuit, it was a good start to the season. I feel myself and the team have created a solid base from the weekend that we can continue to use over the coming races. I’m excited to see what Assen will bring”.
