Kelso on the move, Roulstone playing the waiting game
It’s contract time in the GP paddock. And two of Moto3’s Aussie runners were a tad anxious regarding their future prospects over recent weeks. Joel Kelso signed with MLav Honda for 2026 and ’27, something of a surprise considering the team’s lack of performance this year. And Jacob Roulstone is still hopeful of finding a spot on next year’s grid.

“I didn’t get any opportunities in Moto2. I don’t know what more I could’ve done,” said Kelso. “I waited until I thought I was ready to go there but nothing came up. I had the chance to stay in Moto3 with KTM but I like challenges. It’s true that MLav’s bikes aren’t at the top but I believe I can bring the team to the top.

“It’s a two-year contract with them in Moto3 and I can leave if I get a chance to go to Moto2 (in 2027). There are a lot of great conditions in there. We had many meetings to understand the project. They’re happy to work with me and take on people who I think can bring the team to a better level. The Honda can be on the podium – you just need to have the right package. KTM has supported me for many years but I want a new challenge.”
Roulstone is still waiting to see if he has a ride. The 20-year old recently took on Fabio Di Giannantonio and his Manager to look after his affairs and feels he is in the right hands.

“I have nothing at the moment to be honest. I’ve signed with an agency run by Fabio Di Giannantonio’s manager Diego. I feel comfortable with the situation I’m in. I trust them as they’re working really hard on me. That lets me focus on riding. There are three options on the table. It’s not been an ideal year. But I believe something will happen. I just need to focus on results and I hope to be in this paddock next year.
