Davey Todd fastest as ‘conscious and stable’ Hickman airlifted to hospital for further assessment
The stakes were high and the pace was hot in the third qualifying session of the 2025 Isle of Man TT Races on Friday evening, but events were brought to an abrupt halt after a red-flag incident involving top contender Peter Hickman.

The session, slated to start at 6:30pm local time, promised 80 minutes of precious track time for the combined Superbike, Superstock, and Supersport classes. Under dry but looming skies, riders rolled out from the Grandstand in quick succession, with Honda Racing’s Dean Harrison leading the charge on his Superbike. Close behind, Peter Hickman launched on his Superstock machine, followed by Aussie David Johnson (Superbike), TT veteran Ian Hutchinson, 23-time winner Michael Dunlop, and James Hillier—all aboard Superstock machinery. TT legend John McGuinness MBE, also aboard a Superbike, rounded out the lead group heading onto Glencrutchery Road.

As engines screamed toward the northern end of the circuit, Davey Todd emerged as the early pace-setter on the clocks, while Harrison led the train on the road into key sectors like Parliament Square. It was shaping up to be a fierce session with riders finding rhythm and refining race setups—until an incident brought out the red flags just before 6:40pm.

The cause was quickly linked to an incident involving Peter Hickman, who had come off his machine (Bike #10) at the fast Kerrowmoar section of the course. Racing organisers provided a significant update just before 7:30pm, confirming that Hickman was conscious and in a stable condition:
“Peter Hickman, bike number 10, came off at Kerrowmoar during lap one of the third qualifying session of TT 2025.
“He is currently reported as conscious and stable, and has been taken to Noble’s Hospital by Airmed for further assessment.
As riders who had been halted at marshal points began making their way back to the paddock, weather added to the day’s woes. Rain began falling on sections of the course, prompting Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson to officially cancel the rest of the session.

It was a sobering interruption to an otherwise promising evening of qualifying, reminding all involved of the ever-present risks on the legendary 37.73-mile Mountain Circuit.
With Friday’s session scrapped, attention now turns to the next qualifying outing, scheduled for Saturday, May 31. Riders and teams will be hoping for clear skies and a clean slate as the 2025 Isle of Man TT Races continue to unfold.

Peter Hickman is the current outright lap record holder at the Isle of Man TT with a blistering 136.358mph lap set in 2023. His presumed withdrawal is significant news for the paddock and fans alike, as the multi-time TT winner was expected to be a major threat in both the Superbike and Superstock classes.
