Bulega wins lap record duel with Razgatlioglu but then takes grid penalty, Gardner once again fastest Yamaha in 6th

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) made a remarkable early lap to head up the Superpole qualifying on Saturday morning, until Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) eventually bettered it – making all sorts of shapes his M1000RR to break into the 1’31s.

Bulega’s final pre-race sweep around the 4.226km Misano circuit was – temporarily – the eventual best lap, and a new track best of 1’31.618 to take pole. For a time.

He had been deemed to have ridden slowly on the racing line, and was dropped from pole to fourth.

With Razgatlioglu initially second, then first, a new high water mark came for one of WorldSBK’s prodigal manufacturers – as local rider Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) secured the first front row start on the KB998 Rimini machine, with an eventual second place result.

Sam Lowes finished up third fastest, giving the Elf Marc VDS squad a strong grid spot for Saturday afternoon’s opening race. His brother Alex was finally fifth, on the second bimota BB998.

Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) placed his Italian-based privateer squad on the second row with his sixth best Superpole lap that just made it onto the time sheets at the end of the session.

Declared fit to ride after missing Most, Andrea Iannone (Team Pata GoEleven Ducati) was seventh quickest, then penalised by a three position drop of slow riding and, was thus tenth, making him the first rider on the fourth row for Race One and Sunday’s Superpole Race.

Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha), Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team Ducati) and Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team Ducati) filled out the places from seventh to ninth, after Iannone’s demotion to tenth.

Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was 11th. Top Honda rider was Iker Lecuona (Honda HRC), in 12th. Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) was 15th.
