Simpson takes razor thin victory in Aussie SSP Race 2

Bramich takes second to win the round but Mahaffy maintains title lead with double podium

The Aussie Supersport category delivered thrilling battles and tight finishes across the field. In Race 1, Bramich claimed a narrow win, edging out Mahaffy by just 0.130 seconds in a tight contest. Cabrera completed the podium after a strong ride to third, 6.187 seconds behind the leader. Mahaffy recorded the fastest lap of the race, clocking an impressive 1:10.882 on lap six.

Race 2 proved even more dramatic as Simpson eked out victory by a margin of just 0.012 seconds over Bramich as the lead changed several times in the final corners. Mahaffy once again featured at the front, securing third place only 0.256 seconds off the winner, his second podium of the weekend. The top four riders finished within four-tenths of a second. Nelson put in a solid performance to finish fifth, backing up a strong effort in Race 1. Despite a fast start to the weekend, S. Pezzetta was forced to retire in Race 2 after eight laps. J. Torres Cabrera, who had finished third in the opening race, also failed to finish the second contest. The standout across both races was T. Bramich, who claimed a win and a second place, while Stop and Seal Racing’s Mahaffy’s two podiums meant he also takes away a bag of points from Queensland. Simpson, who finished ninth in Race 1, recovered strongly to take the top step of the podium.

Mahaffy maintains his lead at the top of the Supersport standings with 148 points, while Olly Simpson climbs to second with 121 points. Despite missing the round while he contests the opening event of the STK600 European Championship at Estoril, Archie McDonald holds on to third place with 109 points. Tom Bramich and Hayden Nelson both closed the gap, but remain just outside the top three as the title fight intensifies.
