After weeks of speculation, MV Agusta has confirmed they will split from the troubled motorcycle giant

MV Agusta has confirmed that Art of Mobility S.A., owned by the Sardarov family, has regained full ownership of the iconic Italian motorcycle brand, marking the end of its partnership with KTM. This announcement follows recent speculation surrounding KTM’s future with MV Agusta, particularly as financial difficulties at KTM’s parent company, Pierer Mobility AG, have come under the spotlight. The split brings an official close to a relationship that began in late 2022, when KTM acquired a 25.1% minority stake in MV Agusta.

MV Agusta’s home base in Varese, Italy

The collaboration was initially intended to provide MV Agusta with access to KTM’s logistical and operational expertise, including its vast international dealer network. Over two years, the Italian brand expanded its sales footprint with KTM’s support, but the partnership now appears to have been relatively short-lived. Neither side has disclosed further financial details of the separation, but recent statements from Pierer Mobility suggested they would seek to streamline their portfolio and focus more closely on core business areas.

MV Agusta has sought to reassure stakeholders following the announcement, pointing to what it describes as a strong period of growth and stabilisation in recent years. In 2024, the company sold 4,000 motorcycles, representing a 116% increase compared to 2023. By mid-year, MV Agusta had already matched its total sales from the previous year. Parts sales were another area of improvement, with a 99% availability rate for models produced in the past seven years being highlighted as a key achievement.

MV Agusta will continue to produce ‘Motorcycle Art’

The company’s supplier and dealer networks, comprised of 219 active sales points globally, remain operational. MV Agusta said this network would continue to expand, expecting to reach 270 locations by year’s end. Additionally, the company has 41 service points and 20 non-European importers forming part of its distribution system. MV Agusta stated that maintaining these relationships was a priority during the transition away from KTM to ensure continuity for both suppliers and customers.

The Sardarov family underscored that MV Agusta’s key operations, including design, production, and marketing, would remain based at its Varese headquarters. The development of a new generation of motorcycles is said to be progressing as planned, with the company continuing to embrace its philosophy of creating “Motorcycle Art.” According to the company, its focus will remain on exclusivity and innovation as it moves forward independently.

While the separation from KTM means the loss of a high-profile partner, MV Agusta’s statement positions the split as a move towards autonomy and a more self-sufficient future. For now, the brand remains confident in its ability to navigate this new chapter while continuing to deliver on its commitments to its customers and stakeholders.

Timur Sardarov – CEO of Art of Mobility S.A.: “This is a moment of pride for all of us at MV Agusta. Regaining full control of the company means we are now stronger and more focused than ever on delivering excellence. Over the past two years, the company has significantly strengthened its processes, systems, and workforce. These structural changes are the foundation of the extraordinary results achieved in 2024 and will continue to drive our success in the years to come. I have full confidence in our leadership team, whose vision, combined with the dedication and professionalism of our renewed dealer network, will take MV Agusta to new heights. My commitment, and that of my family, is to be a vital force for the Varese team, the region, and all our partners.”
