Mike Jones Strikes Back with Dominant Win

Yamaha man claims first ASBK win of the season at Morgan Park ahead of Waters, Pearson takes third

Race 2 at Morgan Park was a thrilling 16-lap contest highlighted by a head-to-head battle between Josh Waters and Mike Jones. Waters got the hole shot off the line from the front row and led much of the early race, holding off early charges from Anthony West and Glenn Allerton, while Jack Favelle got a flyer and pushed into the top 5 early.

Throughout the opening laps, Mike Jones — riding a back-up Yamaha after an electrical fault in Race 1 — bided his time and stalked Waters. After slicing past West mid-race, Jones narrowed the gap to Waters lap after lap, clocking fastest laps in clean air, including a blistering 1:12.335. On Lap 13, Jones seized his moment when Waters ran fractionally wide. With superior corner speed and drive, “Mad Mike” made the pass stick and never looked back.

From there, Jones opened up a consistent gap, ultimately crossing the line 2.5 seconds ahead of Waters to claim his first victory of the 2025 season — a statement win following the mechanical woes earlier in the day.

Behind them, Broc Pearson showed great late-race pace to carve through the Addicted to Track Yamaha duo of West and Favelle. Pearson’s gritty ride earned him a well-deserved podium as he held off a resurgent West on the final lap. Jack Favelle capped off a strong weekend in 5th, and Cameron Dunker showed race-long persistence to finish 6th.

With his Race 2 win, Mike Jones narrows the gap slightly to championship leader Josh Waters, who still holds a commanding lead with 215 points after taking the overall round honours. Anthony West remains in third on 158, while Broc Pearson and Glenn Allerton round out the top five. Jones will be hoping to build on the momentum from his Race 2 victory as the championship heads back to Queensland Raceway for round 5.
