Five Round schedule in 2026 paves the way for a warm-weather calendar flip and series rejig
Motorcycling Australia and the ASBK Management Team have outlined a new era for the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul (ASBK), beginning with a compact 2026 season ahead of a landmark move to a summer calendar in 2027. The shift will align ASBK with other major superbike championships worldwide.

The 2026 transition year will feature five rounds from February to June, kicking off at Phillip Island alongside WorldSBK and concluding with the ASBK Grand Finale at Queensland Raceway. After an extended winter break, the new summer format will roll out across seven rounds: starting in October 2026, continuing through November and December, and then into January, February, and March 2027, with the finale at The Bend in April.

Motorcycling Australia CEO Peter Doyle said the move has been long in the making. “’’We now have the support of the manufactures, industry and our partners. With the ASBK Championship in a strong position, now looks to be the best time,” he said. “There will be a short 2026 championship while we make the change to summer, and we appreciate this will be a busy period. ‘’ASBK racing in the summer months aims to bring more fans to the trackside enjoying sunny weather and great racing – and with more eyes watching our TV broadcasts without competition from football codes and other sports. “It also opens the opportunity for international riders to join ASBK in their off-season. It’s an exciting time for ASBK as me take these new steps.”

From 2026, ASBK will introduce a Teams Championship in the Superbike and Supersport classes to recognize the efforts and competitiveness of paddock squads. The series will also streamline podium protocol by awarding trophies to the top three finishers in every race, ending the practice of an ‘overall’ podium per round. In 2026, the Superbike class will contest 11 races across the five events.

Further announcements on the composition and locations of the 2026 and 2027 classes, plus the 2027 ASBK summer calendar dates, will be made in the following weeks as further details are finalised.
