Metzeler is giving you the chance to win an Arai RX-7V helmet of your choice by purchasing a set of new Roadtec 02 tyres from your local dealer, uploading your proof of purchase and completing your entry form before 30 September 2024.

The new Metzeler Roadtec 02 is aimed at riders of sport-tourers, nakedbikes, crossovers and adventure bikes, as well as Supersport machines. It is described as a tyre that “doubles up your ride” thanks to Dynatread technology that is claimed to modify the behaviour of the tyre according to the riding style, intensity and tyre engagement, so it can perform like a sports-touring tyre or a supersports tyre.

TREAD PATTERN

The tread pattern design of the Metzeler Roadtec 02 features a more compact tread and slicker shoulders, giving support at lean angles where water drainage is not required.

The tread pattern features also the distinctive ‘claws’ of both Racetec RR and Sportec tyres, that are accountable for water draining from the centre to outside the contact patch when upright. In combination with the claws, a couple of central grooves provide directional stability while ensuring wear uniformity.

The central longitudinal grooves provide efficient water evacuation and contact patch mobility, which brings comfort, warm-up and grip in the wet: the lateral grooves ensure water evacuation and safety feeling when leaning.

Roadtec 02 also features a re-balanced development of the void/fill ratio over the profile, allowing a more homogeneous behavior while cornering: it increases constantly up to 30° of camber which is the discriminating lean angle between wet+dry and dry-only riding.

This lower, re-balanced and more homogeneous void/fill ratio, brings along two more benefits: it brings more rubber constantly in touch with the ground under the footprint area and hence more grip in both dry and wet conditions; and it reduces the number of voids (grooves) and their frequency when rolling, which avoids vibrations and increases the acoustic comfort.

DYNATREAD

When riding softly and/or in wet conditions, the long groves under the footprint of the tread grant an optimal water evacuation and proper tread mobility that contribute to quick warm-up, contact-patch conformability and better comfort and grip: the optimal performance of a Sport-Touring class tyre.

When riding in a sportier manner, typically in dry conditions, the motorcycle’s load transfer from front-to-rear, rear to-front and on sides are more intense, generating much more pressure on the tyres. Under such increased pressure the walls of the narrow portion of the grooves join together, reducing tread band mobility and hence increasing its solidity and stability for improved rider feedback and grip like a supersport-class tyre.
