Australian bound rally-inspired adventure tourer packs next-generation 649cc parallel twin, traction control and cruise control
Kawasaki’s KLE nameplate, recently reintroduced via the KLE500, grows up for 2027 with the new KLE650 and KLE650 SE. While the mid-capacity adventure category is crowded, Kawasaki is positioning the KLE650 as a rally-style machine in the 600 to 800cc class with a 21-inch front wheel that puts touring comfort at the top of the list.

The concept is built around an easy transition between roles: daily commuting during the week, weekend backroad runs, and genuine adventure touring when the route turns rough. Kawasaki says the riding position is designed to feel natural seated or standing, with smooth bodywork intended to let the rider move around freely.
649cc parallel twin: 51.6kW, more bottom-end and smoother response
Power comes from a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8-valve 649cc parallel twin described as a next-generation development of Kawasaki’s well-proven platform. Output is quoted at 51.6kW (70PS).

Electronic Throttle Valves headline the update, with the ECU controlling both injected fuel volume and intake air via the throttle valves. Kawasaki says optimised fuel injection and throttle positioning are designed to deliver smooth, natural response, linear acceleration and improved fuel efficiency, while the 38mm throttle bores are intended to enhance power feel at higher rpm.
Intake and exhaust tuning is aimed squarely at real-world rideability. Kawasaki says the system has been developed to boost torque below 4000rpm for everyday controllability and unpaved-road use, before running into a flat, seamless torque curve through the mid-range and on to a more revvy character above 6000rpm.

A slim airbox, shaped to support low-to-mid performance, is paired with dual intake ducts designed to reduce intake noise and improve cruising comfort.
Touring tech
Touring support tech is standard, led by Kawasaki Traction Control with two modes, plus Electronic Cruise Control operated from the left bar. Cruise uses the electronic throttle system to hold speed on grades and disengages via brakes, clutch, gearshifts, or closing the throttle past the zero-throttle position.

Selectable ABS is also part of the package, with the ability to disable ABS depending on rider preference, noting that local regulations may require ABS to remain active on public roads.
Chassis and suspension
The KLE650 uses a compact trellis frame concept that traces back to the KLE500, with a stated shift toward greater composure and comfort on paved roads. Kawasaki points to fine-tuned chassis dimensions and a newly designed swingarm as part of that on-road focus.

Wheels are 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked items, matched to long-travel suspension. Up front is a 43mm KYB cartridge-type inverted fork with 210mm of travel, while the rear uses New Uni-Trak with 196mm of travel. Kawasaki says the suspension settings were revised to improve ground-following performance on sealed roads while maintaining predictability and bump absorption when the surface deteriorates.
Trailmax Mixtour tyres, developed with Dunlop and intended to favour on-road grip, are fitted front and rear.

Special Edition polish
The KLE650 SE layers on additional comfort, protection and technology. Key SE additions include Kawasaki Quick Shifter, 5-inch full-digital TFT colour instrumentation, USB-C outlet, a D.I.D aluminium fat-type handlebar, a large aluminium skid plate, a tall compact front cowl, and metal-reinforced hand guards. The SE also gains spoked wheels with tubeless tyres for easier puncture management on the road.

Kawasaki also notes the SE receives a larger windscreen, 106mm taller, aimed at improved wind protection on long rides. The TFT dash supports smartphone connectivity via RIDEOLOGY THE APP MOTORCYCLE, and also supports turn-by-turn navigation display where available.
On the standard KLE650, KQS and the USB-C outlet are available as accessories.

Colours and Australian arrival timing
Two colours have been confirmed at this stage: the KLE650 in Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray, and the KLE650 SE in Pearl Storm Gray.

Kawasaki says pricing, final model details and purchase availability for Australia and New Zealand will be announced closer to launch. Both new models are expected to arrive by mid 2027.
