He says

I’m a 58-year-old bike nut. I’ve had my bike licence since I was 18, but started riding on an XR75 when I was 12 years old. I’ve owned dirt and road bikes since, including a CR500, KTM520, Husaberg 650, GSX-R11OOK, ZX-10R and CBR1000RR just to name a few.

I decided to buy a new Kawasaki ZX-10R in late 2012, and then I read in AMCN that the weight of the WSBK ZX-10R was 165kg, so I set myself the challenge to get the weight of my ZX10R down to near that figure.

First up, I removed the cat and muffler, replacing it with a Nassert Beet Japan Evolution 2R titanium link pipe and muffler. The next major mod was Dymag CA5 carbon-fibre wheels; I rate this the best mod for any bike. Next was a full Brembo brake kit with braided lines, then an Öhlins FGRT817 fork and Öhlins TTXMK2 shock, followed by a higher-spec Öhlins steering damper. Then it was onto the fairing, which is now carbon-fibre, with the exception of two OEM pieces.

The rear subframe is a bespoke carbon-fibre unit from Germany, and it has an MRA windscreen. The front and rear axles are 7075 aluminium, and more than 300 nuts and bolts have been swapped out for Pro-Bolt Titanium.

As for the fuelling, I’m running a Rapid Bike Evo 8 injector module that uses the O2 sensor in the exhaust to make tuning updates on the fly. The air filter is an MWR WSBK race filter.

I have also fitted a Starlane quickshifter and Sato Racing rear sets, and removed the passenger pegs and seat. The clip-ons are 7075 Aluminium with carbon-fibre tubes. I’ve probably missed some of the mods, but I think you get the picture.

I will be honest and say I’m a sunny-day rider who does not possess the desire to race. I have nothing to prove when out riding. This is a great hobby for me. Oh, and about that weight loss figure: I got the bike down to 163.4kg with all road legal specs (exhaust, um… I’m not sure).
