FIM Oceania has named its eight-rider line-up to compete in the first-ever FIM Intercontinental Games (ICG), which will be held at the iconic Jerez circuit in Spain on the weekend of 30 November to 1 December.

FIM Oceania will go into battle against the other five FIM Continental Unions; Latin America, North America, Africa, Asia and Europe. In total there will be 48 competitors from around the world – from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Thailand and America – who will compete on identical Yamaha YZF-R3 (Supersport 300) and Yamaha YZF-R7 (Supersport) machines over four races – two per class – to determine which of the six FIM Continental Unions will be the first to win the Games.

Two-time Supersport World Champion and now Yamaha WorldSBK crew chief Andrew Pitt will be the Oceana team manager.

Each Continental Union will sport its own unique colours – green for FIM Oceania – and include at least one female competitor in each class.

“The FIM Intercontinental Games is a superb addition to the FIM motorcycle racing calendar, and I’m sure it will deliver exceptionally close racing at one of the world’s great circuits,” said Peter Doyle, Motorcycling Australia CEO and FIM Oceana President. “The quality and depth in the FIM Oceania team is outstanding, and I know the riders are desperate to etch their names into the history books as the first-ever winners of the FIM Intercontinental Games. It’s going to be a thrilling event.”

FIM President, Jorge Viegas, added, “As the date for the first-ever FIM Intercontinental Games draws closer, the sense of anticipation is growing stronger and stronger. It is very exciting to be bringing together all six FIM Continental Unions in the FIM’s 125th anniversary year and to have riders from across the world competing underlines a very real sense of unity.

“I am confident that this is just the beginning and that the ICG will continue to develop and grow.”
