Cameron Dunker made the perfect start to season 2026 with back-to-back wins

Cameron Dunker has emerged from the opening Yamaha Aussie Flat Track Nationals double-header at Maryborough’s Action Park with the championship lead after claiming overall honours on both the flat track and TT layouts.

The Pro 450 class delivered on its pre-season hype with multiple race winners, but it was Dunker’s consistency that proved decisive, overcoming a host of challengers including Cooper Archibald, Max Whale, John Lytras and impressive newcomer Riley Nauta.

Maryborough was a slam dunk for Dunker

Saturday’s opening flat track round saw Whale claim Superpole, but Dunker struck first with victory in race one after an intense battle with the Queenslander. Archibald showcased the pace of Ducati’s new Desmo450 MX by taking two race wins, while Lytras also climbed to the top step in race three. Despite only winning once, Dunker’s string of podium finishes earned him the overall round victory.

Sunday’s TT circuit produced another spectacular contest. Nauta stunned the field by claiming Superpole before backing it up with a maiden Pro 450 race victory. Whale controlled the opening two races with his smooth style over the jump section, but Dunker delivered when it mattered, dominating the demanding back-to-back sprint races to secure maximum points before Nauta closed the weekend with another memorable victory.

Whale leads Archibald and Jacobs

The Junior Lites class again revolved around the outstanding rivalry between Jed Fyffe and Neiko Donovan. Fyffe qualified fastest on both days and won six of the eight races across the weekend, extending his championship advantage despite Donovan pushing him all the way. Ryke Haller claimed the final podium spot on Saturday, while Tahj Edwards stepped up for third overall on Sunday.

Grace Hudson was untouchable in the Pro Women category, completing a perfect weekend by qualifying fastest and winning all eight races. Ruby James and Lori Gow were her closest challengers on Saturday before Maryborough local Latiya Hyde lifted to second on Sunday.

Junior 85 honours were split between two standout performers. Brody Ford dominated Saturday’s flat track with three wins, but Kru Tulloch found another level on the TT circuit, claiming two wins and the overall Sunday victory to move to the top of the standings. Flynn Beard recovered from a heavy crash on Saturday to finish runner-up on Sunday.

Hudson Raffin

The new 65 Trackers class proved an immediate success, with Hudson Raffin emerging as the standout after claiming four race wins across the weekend for an early points lead over Harley Ford. The Over 35s All Powers category also impressed, Glenn Smith’s consistency earning overall victories on both days despite strong challenges from Ajay Muggleton and Neil Girdler.

With championship rivalries already taking shape and several new stars announcing themselves, the Yamaha Aussie Flat Track Nationals now heads to Wodonga, Victoria, Rd3+4 on 29-30 Aug.
