Aussies set for podium challenges in Moto2 and Moto3 after strong qualifying runs in Jerez
Australian riders shone brightly during qualifying at the Spanish Grand Prix, with front-row starts secured in both Moto2 and Moto3 classes.
In Moto2, New South Wales talent Senna Agius delivered a standout performance to qualify third aboard his Kalex machine with a time of 1’39.926. Agius will start from the front row alongside pole-sitter Manuel Gonzalez (Kalex), who clocked a 1’39.858, and Albert Arenas (Kalex) in second with a 1’39.890. Agius continues to impress in 2025, showing race-winning potential heading into Sunday’s showdown.
Moto3 saw Queenslander Joel Kelso fire in a brilliant final lap to secure second on the grid with a time of 1’44.042 on his KTM. Spanish young gun Jose Antonio Rueda (KTM) claimed pole position with 1’43.755, while David Muñoz (KTM) completes the front row in third on 1’44.165. Jerez is normally somewhat of a bogey circuit for Kelso, but his front row starting position proves how strong he is this season and places him in a prime spot to challenge for his maiden Grand Prix victory at Jerez.
Fellow Australian Jacob Roulstone also impressed, qualifying in eighth position with a time of 1’44.524 in Moto3 at the circuit he damaged his spine at in pre season testing. Riding for KTM, Roulstone continues to build momentum in his come back from injury, and this his best starting positing at the Jerez circuit.
