Prisk victorious as kangaroos, wire and hidden tracks wreak havoc in 795km fight for survival
Cold winds howled across the open paddocks during the Friday prologue, helping to keep the track mostly dust free as 43 riders hit the 32km course to set the start order for Day 1 racing on Saturday. Young local Honda rider Jesse Broad set the fastest time and would lead out the next morning with bikes starting at one-minute intervals.
2026 winner Todd Ridley started second and quickly took the lead on his Yamaha early in stage one when he passed prologue winner Broad. Ridley continued leading throughout the day and, despite the lack of dust, struggled with some navigation on the overgrown tracks.

Liam McConnell opted for a KTM 450 this year, finishing the first section with the fastest time. Stage 2 was open fast country with the Husky 501 of Cobar’s Greg Prisk topping 180km/h as he took the stage win over Corey Banks. Prisk had a scary moment on stage three when launching over a double caution he landed on a mob of kangaroos! Thankfully he rode out of that situation and kept the pace up to take the stage win with Broad finishing second.
The final two stages of the day saw the lead swap several times as riders missed a few calls in the hard-to-see tracks. Duncan Thorpe finished stage 4 ahead of Ridley, however Ridley was back on his game, posting the fastest time on the final stage of the day.

At the end of Day 1, it was local rider Ridley finishing first with a 3.5 minute gap to Prisk and the same gap back to McConnell.
Day 2 offered up more fast open country and some intense navigation. Ridley led out as the sun rose and dust hung in the air for all competitors behind him. A clean run saw Ridley post the fastest time, with Prisk just one minute behind. However, the second stage of the day put an end to Ridley’s hope of back-to-back wins. An altercation with a tree caused a heavy fall and had him seeing stars. After remounting, he continued until wire became trapped around his wheel, signalling the end of his race. A bad concussion led to a wise decision to seek medical help.
Meanwhile the two KTMs of Banks and John Payten set the pace, with the duo finishing the stage first and second respectively. Stage 3 was a battle between Prisk and Banks with the lead swapping several times until fencing wire held up Banks, handing the stage win to Prisk.

Banks was then under pressure from Scotty Huggins as the two mates swapped places until Banks claimed the stage win. The final stage was taken out by Payten, with Archie Connor posting the second-fastest time.
After two days and 795km of competitive racing, the overall winner was Greg Prisk of Cobar, with Banks just six minutes behind in second and Connor 1.5 minutes farther back in third.
It really was a test of endurance.
