GRID Motorcycles has taken out the Expert’s Choice Award in Royal Enfield Australia’s 2026 BKBO, with its wild 1000cc RE1000 judged best of this year’s custom Shotgun 650 field. Now the spotlight turns to the public, with fans invited to decide their own favourite
Royal Enfield Australia’s 2026 Busted Knuckles Build-Off has named its Expert’s Choice winner, with GRID Motorcycles claiming top honours for the RE1000, a heavily reworked Shotgun 650-based custom powered by a claimed world-first 1000cc Royal Enfield parallel twin.

The annual dealer build competition again turned the spotlight on the Shotgun 650, with workshops from around Australia each taking the platform in a completely different direction. From drag-inspired engineering and military styling to desert racer attitude and stripped-back bobber themes, this year’s field delivered one of the strongest showings yet.
While GRID has already secured the judges’ nod, Royal Enfield is now throwing it open to the public, giving riders and fans the chance to pick their own standout custom.
Below are the five bikes in contention.
Dirty Purdy by MotoMAX

Dirty Purdy takes the Shotgun 650 and pushes it closer to the original concept’s radical vision. The build is defined by its high, wide twin “shotgun” exhausts exiting at 45 degrees, with no mufflers and a sound to match. MotoMAX also reworked the stance with a 40mm lower rear, revised shocks, heavier fork oil, and a low-slung rear guard and seat setup using a Goan 350 rear guard hanger, custom guard, and genuine Royal Enfield accessory seat. Finished in raw steel with MotoMAX’s signature piston bolt logo, Dirty Purdy is a stripped-back, aggressive and purposeful custom that stays true to Royal Enfield’s spirit while turning the Shotgun 650 all the way up.
Desert Eagle by Moto Machine

Royal Enfield Desert Eagle takes the Shotgun 650 into full custom territory as a nitrous-equipped desert bobber with a post-apocalyptic edge. Inspired by Group B rally cars and Dakar machines, this build by Moto Machine features a steel-fabricated fuel tank, tank-mounted ram air intake, NOS system, custom side-exit twin exhausts, three-row LED headlight setup, custom aero discs, YSS rear suspension, and a long list of fabricated, CNC-machined and 3D-printed details. It is a bold one-off that stays connected to Royal Enfield through the frame-loop design, Shotgun silhouette, and references to the brand’s Custom World and military-inspired heritage.
RE1000 by GRID Motorcycles

Built by GRID Motorcycles, Royal Enfield Gold Coast for Busted Knuckles Build Off, the RE1000 is a ground-up custom based on the 2025 Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 and built around a world-first 1000cc Royal Enfield parallel twin. Developed with Jesse Robinson, the original 650 engine was transformed internally into a 1000cc powerhouse, while Dylan Brown hand-built almost everything around it, including a custom chrome moly frame, custom aluminium tank and fenders, handlebars, grips and triple clamps. Inspired by drag racing culture and Japanese craftsmanship, the RE1000 combines extreme fabrication with a sleek, timeless finish, making it one of the most ambitious and show-stopping Royal Enfield customs ever built for the competition.
Sawn-Off by House of Motorcycles

Built by House of Motorcycles for Busted Knuckles Build Off, the Royal Enfield Sawn-Off is a one-of-one Shotgun 650 inspired by classic bobber and drag-bike culture. Built in-house by Cam, it strips the platform back to a harder, lower and more purposeful form through a low-profile Urban Flyscreen, Black Signature Rider Seat, XL 10.5-inch rear shocks, 7/8-inch drag handlebars, Up and Over Riser Kit, custom curved number plate frame, integrated Ellypse run/turn/brake lighting, and bespoke turn signals. The result is a clean, aggressive and tightly resolved custom that stays true to Royal Enfield’s ethos of pure motorcycling, simplicity and rider expression.
Spitfire 650 by Fast Fuel Motorcycles

Built by Fast Fuel Motorcycles for Busted Knuckles Build Off, the Royal Enfield Spitfire 650 takes the Shotgun 650 and reworks it with inspiration drawn from the iconic Supermarine Spitfire. Designed to stay road registrable, reliable and genuinely usable, the build balances strong visual identity with real-world rideability. Standout features include afterburner-style flame throwers, ammunition case saddlebags, a custom LED tail strip, hand-brushed bomber teeth clutch cover, candy red powder-coated details, internally wired handlebars, and a sprung, custom upholstered seat. Rather than reinventing the Shotgun 650, Fast Fuel enhanced its modern design with added personality and detail, creating a custom that feels both distinctive and true to Royal Enfield’s spirit.
Royal Enfield said this year’s competition showed the breadth of ideas dealers can bring to the Shotgun 650 platform, with each builder putting a distinct stamp on the same base motorcycle.
Fans are now invited to decide the prestigious People’s Choice Award by voting for their favourite build.
