Jett wins the final round as Hunter clinches P2 in points

Honda’s Australian duo signed off AMA Pro Motocross in style at Budds Creek, with Jett Lawrence clinching the overall and Hunter Lawrence sealing second in the round and in the championship to complete a historic 1-2 for the brand in the premier class. Having already wrapped the 450 title a week earlier, Jett went 1-2 at Mechanicsville to bank his ninth overall win from 11 rounds, while Hunter rebounded from a tougher opening moto to take the race-two holeshot and check out for a commanding moto victory. The result locked in the first manufacturer sweep of the top two in the 450 standings since 2014 and, remarkably, the first time in history that siblings have finished 1-2 in the premier class.

Jett set the tone early, topping combined 450 qualifying by more than a second before grabbing a wire-to-wire win in moto one, his ninth lights-to-flag triumph of the season, and clocking the fastest lap of the race. Hunter sliced forward from 13th to third in the opener, then led every lap of moto two after edging his younger brother out of the gate. The pair split the holeshots and finished the series tied with seven apiece, giving Honda HRC Progressive 14 holeshots from 22 motos for a remarkable 64 percent strike rate.

Jett’s Budds Creek success pulls Honda level with Kawasaki for the most premier-class overalls at the venue with eight, adding to a list of Red Riders that includes Jeremy McGrath, Kevin Windham, Ricky Carmichael and Chad Reed. It also lifts Jett’s AMA Pro Motocross premier-class career overall tally to 24 and marks his ninth AMA professional championship, making him the 14th rider to earn two or more 450 outdoor crowns. Hunter’s consistency was peerless across the campaign: he was the only rider to finish every moto inside the top five and now owns back-to-back runner-up finishes in his first two 450 outdoor seasons.

With Pro Motocross complete, the field turns to the SuperMotocross Playoffs after a one-week break, with the three-round postseason kicking off on September 6 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
