‘True fighter’ Moto3 rider will require multiple surgeries following horrific Sepang collision

CIP KTM has provided an update on Moto3 rider Noah Dettwiler following a serious incident on the sighting lap before the Malaysian MotoGP race at Sepang.

The 20-year-old Swiss rider was involved in a collision with Jose Antonio Rueda on the exit of Turn 3. Both riders were airlifted to hospital, and the race start was delayed by more than an hour.

At hospital, Rueda — who ran into the back of Dettwiler as the Swiss rider was moving slowly — was diagnosed with a concussion and a fracture to his right hand.

CIP Green Power’s statement did not outline the specifics of Dettwiler’s injuries but confirmed he faces significant medical intervention, noting he will need “multiple surgeries”. The team’s message, posted to Instagram on Sunday 26 October, reads:

“This morning, during the sighting lap at Sepang, our rider Noah Dettwiler was involved in a serious accident. He was taken to the hospital in Kuala Lumpur and will need to undergo multiple surgeries. He is in good hands, and we kindly ask you to respect his privacy. We will not be sharing further details at this time. Noah is a true fighter, and the entire CIP Green Power team is right behind him. We will keep you updated as soon as possible.”

While the team refrained from sharing medical details, Swiss outlet Blick reports information provided by Dettwiler’s father indicating the rider suffered multiple cardiac arrests after the crash. The report also states he sustained injuries to his spleen and lungs, lost a significant amount of blood, and suffered an open fracture to one leg.

Dettwiler is undergoing treatment in Kuala Lumpur, the closest hospital to the Sepang Circuit.
