Waters Cruises to Victory as Jones Edges West in Intense Battle

Josh Waters secured a commanding victory, while Mike Jones and Anthony West fought tooth and nail for second place in an action-packed race. Waters nailed another beautiful launch as the lights went out and immediately established himself at the front, while Cameron Dunker made a bold move into second place, ahead of Jones and West. Broc Pearson unfortunately slid off at high speed in Turn 1, though he was thankfully uninjured.

This was as close as anyone got to Waters all weekend

By Lap 2, Jones had worked his way past Dunker into second place at Miller Corner, but Waters was already pulling a gap, stretching his advantage to 1.5 seconds.

The battle for second intensified on Lap 3, as both Jones and West attacked at Turn 1, while Glenn Allerton took advantage to force Dunker wide. West had a go at Jones into Miller Corner but ran in too deep, allowing Jones to hold onto second.

Allerton closed down Jones and West in the early stages to make it a 3 way battle for the final podium positions

Allerton rapidly closed the gap to the duo ahead, adding another layer of tension to the fight. West made his move at MG Corner, finally making it stick on Jones and showing stronger pace at this stage of the race, while Waters extended his lead to 2.5 seconds with bludgeoning consistency.

West had the hammer down, trying to solidify second place, while Allerton attacked Jones into Miller Corner. Jones fought back at MG, but their battle allowed West to stretch further ahead, capitalising on their lost momentum.

West tried to break Jones, but just couldn’t shake the gritty Queenslander

Jones wasn’t done yet, though. By Lap 8, he was back on the hunt, pushing hard and drifting both wheels through Stoner Corner as he reeled West back in. Allerton’s race unfortunately ended with a technical gremlin, just as he was starting to look really strong.

As the laps ticked down, the familiar sight of West and Jones locked in battle emerged once again, with each rider excelling in different sections of the track—West stronger in the final sector, Jones with the edge in the first.

Jones executed the perfect block pass into MG on the last lap

Heading into the final lap, Jones shadowed West, but Waters had already opened a three-second lead, unchallenged out front. West defended fiercely from MG through to Turn 12, preventing Jones from getting close enough for a slipstream move. Jones closed in at Miller Corner, but couldn’t find a way past. His final opportunity came at MG, where he executed a perfect block pass. West was in the draft but was forced to settle for third, while Jones clinched second place on the podium.

These three locked out the podium in every race

Dunker put in a solid ride, crossing the line in a lonely fourth place. Waters’ unexpected dominance given his pre-season injury troubles and lack of testing time will give his opponents a lot to think about heading into the next round at Eastern Creek.
