Morrison first female to win in Supersport 300

Tara Morrison holds off Nicholson and Simpson to take historic victory 

Tara Morrison has made history this afternoon by becoming the first ever female to win an ABSK Supersport 300 race. Morrison (Fearless Motorcycles – Kawasaki) took the opening Race and Road Supersport 300 race this afternoon after qualifying second on the grid amongst a bumper field of forty-one entries. The South Australian is aiming to compete in the Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship later in the year and pipped Jordy Simpson (Simpson Crash – Yamaha) and Scott Nicholson (Traction Control Motorsport – Kawasaki) at the line in a hectic season opener where the top ten were covered by just over a second.

Morrison was assertive all race, hitting the lead with three laps to run and carving out a gap. Experienced campaigner Nicholson pushed her all the way, as did Simpson. Victorian Oliver Short (Highside – Kawasaki) came in fourth and also set the fastest lap of the race. Jake Senior (Boltons – Yamaha) took fifth ahead of Hudson Thompson (Motostars – Yamaha) and Tom Nicolson (LS2 Helmets – Kawasaki). Sam Drane, (Estenson – Yamaha) younger brother of Tom, took eighth ahead of the second Simpson brother, Mitch (Simpson Signs – Yamaha). Jake Paige (Champions Ride Days – Kawasaki) rounded out the top ten.

Last year’s championship runner-up Valentino Knezovic (Motocity – Yamaha) endured a sluggish start to the season finishing almost two seconds off the pace in eleventh.

The Supersport 300 action continues tomorrow and Sunday.
