V4 progress evident as Miller beats his own 2025 Sepang qualifying time

Under hotter and more humid conditions than Day 1, Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) set the pace with a 1:57.908, becoming the first rider of the test to dip into the 1’57s and underlining Yamaha’s growing confidence with its new V4 package. That time is faster than Miller’s 1:57.949 qualifying time set on the inline 4 Yamaha at last years Sepang round.

Fabio Quartararo made his first appearance of 2026 and impressed immediately, placing both of his Monster Energy Yamaha machines inside the top five, while Alex Rins wasn’t far adrift in seventh. Rookie Toprak Razgatlioglu continued his rapid adaptation to MotoGP machinery, slicing seven tenths off his Day 1 time. Test riders Augusto Fernandez and Andrea Dovizioso logged solid mileage for Yamaha, topping out at 1:59.351.

KTM again featured prominently, with Pol Espargaro finishing just 0.025s behind Miller in second. Dani Pedrosa completed a heavy workload with 47 laps and placed both RC16s inside the top ten, while Mika Kallio also took part.

Honda’s fastest rider was Aleix Espargaro, who posted a 1:58.066 for third despite encountering a technical issue. Diogo Moreira continued to make strides, improving by nearly a second to move into the 1’59s.

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro focused on consistency, completing 46 laps and improving to a 1:59.155, while Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori undertook extensive development work across the factory’s full 2026 bike allocation. Aprilia looks set to standardise the chassis used by Marco Bezzecchi late in 2025, with aero still under evaluation.

With Yamaha, KTM and Honda filling the top three and separated by just over a tenth, the Sepang Shakedown continues to hint at a more competitive 2026. Today is the last day of the shakedown test before all the full time riders hit the track for the official Sepang test from 3rd to the 5th of February.
