Honda’s Mark Marquez has once again proved he is the master of strategy, claiming pole position for tomorrow’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Victoria’s Phillip Island Grand Prix .

On a drying track, which remained under threat of heavy rain from a growing dark cloud mass, Marques was the first to switch to slick tyres. The Spaniard immediately showed the superiority of the dry track rubber by overtaking Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo around the outside of the super-fast turn 12 on his way to setting the sessions fastest lap so far. Marquez held the top spot for the remainder of the session, finishing with a 1m30.189s lap to claim pole position. Fellow Honda rider Cal Crutchlow (1m30.981s) and Yamaha Tech3 rider Pol Espargaro will line up alongside Marquez on the front row for tomorrow’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Aussie Jack Miller produced a career-best qualifying performance and will start his home Grand Prix from the second row of the grid in position five, after being as high as third place (front row) right up until the dying seconds of qualifying.

Fellow Aussie Mike Jones, riding for the Avantia Ducati team, put in another impressive performance to claim the 19th fastest time ahead of his much more experienced teammate Loris Baz.
