Ducati star wins back-to-back trebles for the first time ever, equaling Angel Nieto’s 90 career wins in the process
Marc Marquez delivered a masterclass at Termas de Río Hondo, securing a dominant victory at the Argentine Grand Prix. In doing so, he became the first rider to achieve back-to-back pole positions, Sprint wins, and Grand Prix victories in the opening two rounds of a MotoGP season, while also equaling Angel Nieto for the third-most wins across all classes with 90 career triumphs.
As the lights went out, Johann Zarco got a strong start, holding onto fourth place. However, drama unfolded almost immediately when Marco Bezzecchi made contact with Fabio Quartararo and went down, ending his race prematurely. At the front, Marc Marquez was electric through the final two sectors, pulling out an early half-second gap over the chasing pack.

Alex Marquez wasted no time making his intentions clear, overtaking his elder brother on Lap 3 to seize the lead after his brother ran wide. Meanwhile, Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio, both running the softer tyre option, showcased impressive early pace, with Morbidelli setting the fastest lap on Lap 4 as he attacked reigning champion Pecco Bagnaia.

Morbidelli was having a heroic ride, running in third despite feeling unwell all weekend. Bagnaia couldn’t match his pace and soon found himself under intense pressure from Zarco, who was looking after his tyres well and remained in podium contention. Meanwhile, Ai Ogura and Pedro Acosta were making steady progress, with Acosta taking advantage of an Ogura mistake on Lap 15 to grab ninth.
At the front, Marc Marquez remained glued to the back of Alex, seemingly waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. On Lap 18, he made his first attempt at Turn 1 but ran wide, allowing his younger brother to retake the position, which briefly allowed Alex to pull out a small gap.
With just a few laps remaining, Marc Marquez turned up the heat. Setting blistering lap times with his brother, Marc eventually drafted past Alex on the back straight on Lap 21 and never looked back. With the hammer down, he stretched his lead to nearly two seconds by the final lap, crushing any hopes of a response from Alex and stamping his authority on the 2025 season once again.
Behind the Marquez brothers, Morbidelli held strong against Bagnaia’s late charge, securing a well-deserved podium. Meanwhile, Diggia made a last-lap move on Zarco to complete an all-Ducati top five.
Jack Miller recovered after a horror start to score some points in 14th, just in front of Fabio Quartararo.
With this triumph, Marc Marquez has not only equaled MotoGP legend Angel Nieto’s 90 career wins and, if his untouchable form continues, he could be on track to create even more MotoGP history this year. With yet another favourite track for Marc Marquez coming up with the Circuit of the Americas, his rivals will need to find answers fast if they hope to stop his relentless march, as Bagnaia is already 31 points down on his teammate.
