The recent MV Agusta VIP evenings, held at MV Agusta Parramatta, NSW, and Mid Life Motorcycles in Melbourne, saw a number of special-edition models and their happy owners united for the first time.

Not someone to do things by half, Michael Vella took delivery of two new motorcycles, including a limited-edition MV Agusta RVS#1 (Reparto Veicoli Speciali). The Dragster 800-based beauty is one of only 100 produced, and one of only a handful to make their way Down Under. Not a bad day’s shopping for someone who left the house looking for a mere timepiece.

“To celebrate my 50th birthday, I wanted to buy myself a nice watch,” Vella explained. “But the watch shop didn’t open until 10am, so I went for a walk and wandered past the MV Agusta dealer. I asked the salesperson about ordering an RVS, and I found I needed to be an existing customer to apply to purchase one.”

The new limited edition MV Agusta Brutale 800 America was also on show at the VIP night

Despite not having an MV Agusta in his growing collection of bikes, Vella was undeterred and put a deposit down on a new Dragster 800 RC (Reparto Corse).

“I then went outside, turned around and walked straight back in and asked if I could now order the RVS as an existing customer!”

He was quick to clock up a mountain of kilometres on the new RVS#1, and it has already been back into the dealership for its first routine service.

“When you ride this bike, your personality changes very quickly,” he said.

Vella may still be without a watch, but with the initials MV, and a birthday in August, the right choice was made.

Also unveiled and presented to their new owners at the celebration of Italian food, wine and motorcycles were the limited-edition 800 Brutale-based America, and one of only 44 Lewis Hamilton F4 RC (F4 LH 44) models – a Candy Apple Red machine that was quickly whisked away by its happy new owner.
