Upcoming 2025 KTM 1390 Super Duke GT specifications confirmed in type-approval documents.

It’s always been inevitable that the ‘1390’ engine that made its debut in this year’s KTM 1390 Super Duke would spread through the company’s range and now the first details of the next model – the 1390 Super Duke GT – have emerged in Swiss type-approval documents.

Unsurprisingly, given the close relationship between the Super Duke and the Super Duke GT, the engine is carried directly across to the sports-touring model, which was spied on test earlier this year. The documents confirm that it has the same capacity, which is really 1350cc despite the name, meaning it’s only 43cc larger than the old, 1303cc ‘1290’ V-twin. Like the 1390 Super Duke, the GT also gets variable valve timing and lift, resulting in identical power of 140kW at 10,000rpm, and torque of 145Nm at 8000rpm. The earlier spy photos appeared to confirm the bike also receives the latest Super Duke chassis, but the approval documents show there are noticeable changes in some key dimensions – not least the wheelbase and overall length.

The GT model is 19mm longer than the standard 1390 Super Duke overall, taking up 2139mm of garage space, and its wheelbase is extended by 5mm to 1496mm. The increase in total length is probably down to the GT’s extended, strengthened rear subframe, which is designed to cope with more load than the naked Super Duke, while the wheelbase change may relate to suspension setup or to a change in sprocket size requiring the chain to be adjusted differently. The approval documents show that the top speed is reduced from the Super Duke’s 270km/h to ‘only’ 250km/h, suggesting a gearing change has been made.

We know from the spy pictures that the GT has a screen, and the approval document suggests it could be adjustable or that KTM will offer multiple versions, as the bike’s overall height is listed as ranging  from 1299mm to 1399mm. The naked Super Duke, for comparison, comes in at 1133mm tall. The GT is wider, too, at 929mm vs 843mm for the current 1390 Super Duke.

An increase in weight is also no surprise, and the GT is 16kg heftier than the 1390 Super Duke, with an approved mass of 228kg including fuel, up from 212kg for the naked version.
