Jason Doyle is out for the remainder of the 2024 Speedway Grand Prix series.

Riding in a British Premiership match at King’s Lynn on 23 May, 2017 world champion Doyle tangled with another rider on the opening lap of his first ride and crashed over the safety fence and landed on concrete.

He suffered four broken ribs and a lung contusion and had concerns about his left shoulder and although no breaks were found Doyle said, “There was a weird feeling of numbness, and I knew this wasn’t right.”

After undergoing further checks on his shoulder in Britain and Poland, it was discovered Doyle had suffered a torn rotator cuff and snapped two tendons and needed immediate treatment. He was scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday of this week.

Jason Doyle is out for the rest of the 2024 season

“Now normally, I would ride with broken bones and injuries, but this one I can’t get out of. I have no strength and I can’t wait until the end of the season to get it sorted. I must have it repaired fast or it will have long term consequences and I won’t lift a beer when I retire.

“The specialist has told me I will be out for four to six months. But, this isn’t the end. I have loads more to give,” said Doyle.

If there is a silver lining to Doyle’s injury it is that another Australian Max Fricke, who was listed as first reserve, will take over from Doyle in the SGP series for the rest of 2024.
