Suzuki rider Andrea Iannone has remained at the top of the timesheets following the final MotoGP free practice session at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
Despite newly-crowned world champion, Marc Marques (Repsol Honda Team), posting the fastest time of the third session (1m29.714s), and surviving yet another low-side crash, he was unable to better Iannone’s FP2 time (1m29.131s) from yesterday. The result gives the Suzuki rider a strong phycological advantage leading into this afternoon’s all-important qualifying sessions that will determine the grid for tomorrow’s Michelin Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
The changable weather conditions kept the pace slower than yesterdays free practice sessions, with just five riders breaking into the 1m29sec bracket.
Aussie hero, Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing Ducati), once again impressed with his speed, finishing the session third overall with a (1m29.792s) lap, just 0.078s slower than Iannone, and just 0.036s slower than Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales (Movistar Yamaha) who was second fastest with a 1m29.756s lap.
Mike Jones continued his impressive run on the Angel Nieto Team Ducati, improving his time by almost a second (1m32.988s) to finish the session in 22nd position ahead on MotoGP regular Scott Redding (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini) 1m33.139s.
