The Ixon airbag has been designed so that it can be worn under any set of race leathers or jacket.

Its official model name is the IX-AIRBAG U03, and it is described as the totally independent airbag, in that no cable is required to affix it to the the motorcycle nor any external sensors to install; in other words, it is an airbag that can be worn under any jacket, just like a vest.

The airbag features an activation system that analyses the rider’s moves 1000 times a second to detect a fall or crash, and activates inflation of the airbag before impact in less than 55 milliseconds.

The airbag offers comprehensive protection when inflated, covering  a rider’s collarbone, thorax, abdomen, neck and backbone.

Ixon says that more than 100 million kilometres have been covered by users, which allowed the development and fine tuning of deployment of the In&motion technology integrated in the airbag. This is the brain of the system, which contains all the sensors and algorithms required for activation. With 1000 analyses per second, the user’s position is continuously measured and this allows the system to detect and anticipate falls.

The In&box is removable from the airbag vest; it clips onto the airbag’s integrated backrest and is easily removed for recharging. It has an autonomy of 30 hours in continuous use and it takes two to three hours to fully recharge.

The Ixon airbag itself retails for $699.95 and the removable inflator adds $179.95.

The Ixon airbag is available in sizes XS-2XL.
