The Suzuki TL1000-powered Bimota Anthony Gobert pulled off an amazing WorldSBK win on at Phillip Island is up for auction this month

UK’s Iconic Auctioneers expect the 2000 Bimota SB8K Factory Superbike 996cc to fetch upwards of $A150k. Gobert stunned the racing world with his victory in the rain at the 2000 Australian round of WorldSBK. He had qualified 11th on the unfancied Bimota and was some 20km/h down on top speed. But rain and tyre choice made it a more level playing field for the race and Gobert, one of the bravest riders around, gave Bimota its last WorldSBK win. It was a dominant display, with Gobert finishing 29 seconds ahead of Carl Fogarty. The winning bike has been on display ever since and is sold complete with the original race telemetry in place. A cache of spare parts, including modified cylinder heads (and Gobert’s race-winning helmet) is included. Sadly, time has taken its toll, with the magnesium swingarm now corroded.
