Harrison ends Honda’s TT drought while Dunlop secures record-breaking 48th podium with Supertwin victory

Dean Harrison claimed a long-awaited return to the top step of the podium at the 2024 Isle of Man TT, sealing a commanding victory in Tuesday’s RL360 Superstock TT race. The Honda Racing UK rider clocked a blistering personal best lap of 135.692mph to edge out Davey Todd (8TEN Racing BMW) by 11.6 seconds, securing his first TT win since the 2019 Senior race and his first ever Superstock triumph.

In a race delayed from morning to an evening start (6:30pm) and cut from three laps to two due to schedule changes, early pace-setter Todd led Harrison by just 0.2s at Glen Helen on lap one, setting a rapid tempo from the outset. Michael Dunlop, chasing his 27th TT win, slotted into third aboard the MD Racing BMW, with early podium challengers including James Hillier, Nathan Harrison, and Michael Evans locked in a fierce midfield battle—all separated by mere seconds.

Despite Todd building a slender lead over the opening miles, Harrison reeled him in over the Mountain section. By lap’s end, the gap tightened to a razor-thin 0.4s after Todd posted a 133.712mph lap — faster than Harrison’s 133.658mph — but not enough to shake the Honda rider, who was building momentum.

As the second and final lap progressed, Harrison found clear road and made it count. He pushed the hammer down, extending his lead with every sector and eventually blasting to a career-best 135.692mph lap — enough to break clear of Todd, who encountered traffic near Ginger Hall. Harrison crossed the line with a convincing 11.6-second margin to claim Honda’s first Superstock TT win since 2014.

Todd secured second (134.077mph), while Dunlop settled for third after a late drop-off but still celebrated a significant milestone — his 47th TT podium, equalling legend John McGuinness.

Hillier (4th, 131.937mph) and a hard-charging Ian Hutchinson (5th, 131.606mph) showed strong form, the latter recording his first 130+mph lap since 2017. Conor Cummins rounded out the top six on the Burrows Engineering BMW.

Further back, Nathan Harrison (7th), Dominic Herbertson (8th), Josh Brookes (9th), and James Hind (10th, with an impressive 132.152mph lap on the North Lincs Components Honda) completed the top ten. Michael Evans took 11th and celebrated his first-ever 130mph+ lap at 130.094mph.

Harrison’s victory is Honda’s first win at this year’s event, and his stunning pace also suggests he may have found a setup that will allow him to take the fight to Dunlop and Todd in the prestigious Senior TT later in the week.

Michael Dunlop Breaks Records with Dominant Supertwin TT Victory

Michael Dunlop continued to rewrite the Isle of Man TT record books on Tuesday evening, taking a commanding win in the Metzeler Supertwin TT – his 31st career TT victory and a record-breaking 48th podium finish, surpassing John McGuinness’s long-standing tally.

Originally scheduled for earlier in the day, the race was postponed due to damp roads and restructured to just two laps. As the field finally got underway at 7:45 p.m., it was Dunlop who immediately took control aboard his MD Racing Paton.

By the first timing point at Glen Helen, Dunlop had edged out a 2.2-second lead over Michael Evans (Dafabet Racing Kawasaki), with Mike Browne third before he retired early at Kirk Michael. Davey Todd, Rob Hodson and Stefano Bonetti rounded out the early running order.

At Ballaugh, Dunlop had stretched his lead to nearly 6 seconds and increased the gap to 9.3 seconds by Ramsey. Up on the Mountain, he caught and passed Evans on the road, clocking 122.006mph on the opening lap to lead by 10.7 seconds. Evans responded solidly with 120.837mph and held second ahead of Todd, Hodson and Paul Jordan.

On the final lap, Dunlop continued to turn the screws, extending his advantage to 17.9 seconds at Ramsey before crossing the line with a best lap of 122.610mph. His final winning margin was 22.6 seconds over Evans, who marked his first TT podium on his 32nd birthday. Rob Hodson also made his maiden trip to the rostrum, edging out Jordan by just 1.7 seconds for third place.

Todd, despite an impressive final lap, slipped to fifth, with Dominic Herbertson rounding out the top six. Adam McLean fought through to seventh ahead of Bonetti, Barry Furber, and TT veteran Michael Rutter in tenth.
