Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing Yamaha) scored the Donington WorldSSP race win and took over the championship lead after passing early race leader Jules Cluzel (NRT Yamaha) and easing out to a margin of victory of 1.377 seconds.

Second place went to Cluzel, after a challenge by Raffaele De Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse by Vamag) was overturned by the French rider in the final two laps.

Behind the podium riders, Randy Krummenacher (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha) survived a near highside with six laps to go and temporarily lost one position. He reclaimed it to finish fourth.

2017 World Champion Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) was fifth, just behind Krummenacher on track, with Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) nearly two seconds adrift of his team-mate.

Almost 14 seconds back, Ayrton Badovini (MV Agusta Reparto Corse by Vamag) was seventh, with a good ride from NRT Yamaha rider Thomas Gradinger taking him to eighth place.

Sheridan Morais (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was ninth, the best Kawasaki rider, and the top ten was rounded out by Andrew Irwin (CIA Landlord Insurance Honda) at his home round.

Anthony West (EAB antwest Racing Kawasaki) was 11th.
